“A brand new me!”

2015 was the most challenging, yet life-changing year of my life! I moved to an entirely different continent, had to un-learn so many things, and somehow “find myself” through that process. Part of doing that meant participating in new things, such as the Miss Africa Perth pageant, which not only taught me a lot about where I’m from, but also prepared me for a new environment and challenges that I didn’t even realise were ahead of me.

Now that I’m reflecting on this journey I thought I’d jot down what I think are the 5 most valuable lessons I learnt from the experience that still apply today:

  1. Get comfortable with being challenged, it only means you are growing.

  2. You have been criticising yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.

  3. Don’t trade your authenticity for approval.

  4. When you start seeing your worth, you’ll find it harder to stay around people who don’t.

  5. Why fit in when you were born to stand out!
